Sustainability in Business

In a recession filled time you would assume that companies would be focused on one thing and that is keeping their heads above water but the truth is there has never been more focus and emphasis put on the ‘greener’ and sustainable side of a business. It seems that the bigger the economic crisis, the closer we are to obtaining a green society. With many corporations such as Vodafone, Tesco , BP and The Body Shop leading the way to sustainable enterprise, businesses that aren’t following this latest trend are being left far behind. Going green not only improves companies’ reputations (amongst customers and potential shareholders) but also improves their opportunity to get ahead of competition, thus gaining a competitive edge. It seems to me that companies who are not attempting to become sustainable are not only damaging themselves economically but are also detrimentally weakening their character. In a world with rapidly depleting resources, sustainable businesses are readily equipped to deal with the reduction of energy sources such as fossil fuels as steps have already been made to become self sufficient.
If all these above factors don’t convince you of a ‘greener’ alternative, then maybe the extra incentive of government payments to those companies who are making the effort will persuade you.
So overall I think you would agree that a sustainable, green life is the way forward
